The Putney School Summer Programs offer a full range of workshops for students age 14 to 17 in creative writing, visual arts, and performing arts. We support focused, intensive, and active participation by students who work in a non-competitive environment with self-discipline, energy, and commitment. The students and staff who come to Putney each summer form a close-knit community, far removed from the urban environment. The diversity of our student body and staff enriches the experiences of everyone here and brings a wealth of talent, thought, and background for all of us to share.
The campus of The Putney School is situated on a beautiful hilltop in southern Vermont and encompasses a working farm which provides produce and dairy products served throughout the summer.
Students enroll in full-day Writing Intensive or in half-day workshops in Fiction Writing, Poetry Writing, Writing for Performance, or a wide range of workshops in the visual arts – Photography, Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Glass Arts, Fashion Design and Music and Performing Arts including Music Composition, Songwriting, Theater and Dance. We also offer a Farm, and Culinary Arts program.
