Camp Lohikan hires Program Directors and Staff Instructors for the following Adventure Activities: Challenge Course, Rock Climbing, Wilderness Survival.
Program Directors are typically Outdoor Adventure Professionals.
Staff instructors are college-age individuals with extensive experience in the adventure activity either on the high school or college level.
Teaching experience is preferred but not mandatory.

COLLEGE STUDENTS, TEACHERS,COACHES & CHILD CARE PROFESSIONALS: In addition to college-enrolled cabin counselors and activity instructors, we are searching for teachers, coaches, and child care professionals to assume a number of supervisory positions: head instructors for our 65+ daily activities, horseback riding director, tennis director, pool director, lifeguard trainer, lake director, intercamp games director, evening program director, special events director, group leaders for each of our 8 camper divisions, head counselors, transportation staff, nurses, doctors, office staff, attendance staff, maintenance staff, 1st & 2nd cooks and food service staff.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have completed at least one year of college.
College enrolled staff members are housed in the cabins with the campers and assume counseling responsibilities in addition to instructional responsibilities during the program day.
Applicants must be individuals with high moral character and a strong work ethic. Working in camp and counseling children is hard work! We expect our staff members to be excellent role models for our campers.
Previous experience working with children is preferred. The capacity to provide warm, mature guidance is most important.
Camp Lohikan is a non-smoking camp.
Depending upon the specialty position, certification, if available, may be required. In any event, staff members applying for an instructor position must have extensive personal experience participating in the activity, must have demonstrated expertise in the activity, and ideally, should have experience teaching the activity.
As a condition of employment applicants must pass Camp Lohikan's pre-offer and post-offer staff screening processes which include: reference checks, criminal background checks, sex-offender registry check and other staff screening checks deemed appropriate.

Since 1957 Camp Lohikan has been owned and operated by the Buynak Family. For 55 summers the Buynak Family and Camp Lohikan's dedicated staff have provided campers with a safe, caring environment to make new friends, professional instruction to learn new skills and sharpen old ones, and a friendly camp atmosphere where FUN happens all the time! JUNIOR PROGRAM (age 9 and younger) – STRUCTURED - Junior campers travel as a cabin group with their cabin counselor to activities designed for their age group. Certain activity sites offer electives which allow the juniors choice in their programming while still maintaining cabin counselor supervision. Counselors for junior cabins are specially chosen for their warmth, experience and ability to work with younger campers. Typically, three counselors are assigned to every junior cabin. INTER/SENIOR PROGRAM (age 10 and older) – INDIVIDUALIZED - Older campers get to choose all of their activities at Lohikan. Activities are chosen on a weekly basis and adjusted daily. It’s individualized scheduling at its finest! You can adjust your schedule to travel with friends or specialize in as many activities as you want. The choice is yours! Regardless of age or program format, particular attention is paid to camper supervision and safety throughout the day. Program activities are instructed with appropriate emphasis on skill development and FUN!

TEEN PROGRAM: The individualized format of our daily program is ideal for teens. In addition to the free choice program format, activities are coed for teenagers. Evening activities and special events are operated by division. Senior division events are geared for our oldest campers like: Senior Beach Parties, DJ Disco Extravaganzas, Senior Socials, Senior Trips, Senior Tiki Bivouac, Senior Snack Bar & Game Room, Senior Experiment Week, Lohikan’s Camp-A-Palooza Concerts, and lots more! INSTRUCTION: All activities are headed and instructed by professionals and supported by a staff of college-enrolled instructors who are certified in their field of specialty. Beginner through advanced skill levels are accommodated and, in certain activities, private lessons are available, i.e., tennis, equitation, music. In addition to instructional classes, recreational time is provided in all activities.
SPECIAL SUMMER CLINICS: Clinics are specially scheduled and staffed, concentrated instructional programs designed to focus the camper's attention and time on improving a specific set of skills. Certain clinics are an outgrowth of programs already operating on a daily basis but offered to provide campers, with strong interest, an opportunity to become immersed in the activity (3-4 hours per day) with the purpose of producing more advanced skills in a relatively short period of time. Other clinics feature programs and activities (skill development) not offered in the camp's daily activity line-up. In addition to building skills and self confidence and just being fun, the Clinics Program adds diversity to the summer camp program and are very popular with many of our campers. This summer's clinics include: Spy Camp, Rock Band Camp, The Equestrian Clinic, Paintball Camp, Hip Hop Clinic, Cheerleading Camp, DJ Clinic, Competitive Tennis Clinic, High-5 Basketball Clinic, Golf Clinic, Culinary Arts, and Skate X-Games Clinic. CAMP STAFF: When it comes down to it, camp staff is what a successful camp is all about. A great camp experience is only possible with great camp staff. This is where we shine! Our 50+ senior staff members are adult professionals who assume supervisory responsibilities in camp and at least 90% return every summer. Our in-cabin counselors are college-enrolled staff members. Over 50% return every summer. Ninety percent of our staff are Americans who are recruited from all over the United States for their skills, experience and ability to work with children. All staff members are interviewed, references contacted and criminal background checks performed annually. During our pre-camp orientation period staff members are certified in safety procedures, qualified for instructional responsibilities and trained in skills to provide nurturing guidance to children in the camp setting.
CAMP MISSION: Our mission is to provide the staff, the program and the nurturing camp environment that will improve the camper's artistic, athletic and social skills and, with support and positive recognition, develop in the camper a greater self-esteem and self-confidence.
