Atlantic Center for the Arts is offering a residency for 9th through 12 grade young writers modeled after their successful and widely respected Master Artists-in-Residence Program. This unique, two week residential program will focus on mentorship by distinguished master writers, as well as the opportunity for participants to work within a multi-disciplinary peer community. The selection process for this unique literary residency opportunity will be competitive.
Over the past 25 years, through its internationally-renowned residency program, ACA has hosted 300 distinguished Master Artists, who have worked with and mentored over 3,000 emerging and midcareer artists.
21 teen writers from around the country will be chosen to participate in workshops taught by three Master Writers from three writing disciplines; poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. The Master Writers will participate in the selection of a group of talented young writers, determined through a formal application process. During the residency Master Writers lead formal/informal sessions with their respective teen writer groups. These Sessions are interactive, while allowing time for the development of ideas. Teens can strengthen skills in their preferred genre, while exploring and experimenting with other forms of literature.
The residency will take place at
ACA is located on ten acres of pine and palmetto forest, representing the interaction between nature, environment, and creativity. Recreational activities will include evening events with guest writers and readings, a poetry slam, trips to New Smyrna’s beaches, guided boat trip and eco-tour on local waterways, as well as bike rides, yoga, and a bookmaking workshop.
