Students will participate in group activities and seminars covering a broad range of leadership skills, including: Teamwork, Group Conflict, Communication, Diversity, Event Planning, and more. Students will also have the opportunity to partake in service learning opportunities in the Boston-area, applying what they have learned to serve others.

GLBT Awareness Institute

During this summer program, which is unique to Suffolk University, students will have the opportunity to connect with other GLBT youth and develop a greater understanding of their GLBT identity.  Daily workshops will include such topics as GLBT history, queer theory, homosexuality and religion, pop culture, coming out in college, gender identity, knowing your resources and more. Students will also participate in some workshops with students from the Student Leadership Development Institute to foster personal growth in leadership skills.

Institute for the Empowerment of Women of Color

This institute presents the accomplishments, talents and issues faced by women of color in a supportive learning environment that extends beyond the class room. This institute will provide the participants the opportunity to develop and sharpen their leadership skills, in hopes of developing leaders who will go on to become effective decision making change agents in the future within any profession. The goal is to analyze barriers that affect women’s access to leadership and assist young women in envisioning ways to challenge the obstacles. We will also explore the demands of leadership in a diverse society and enable women to practice their leadership skills with a variety of hands on experiences.  The mission of the Institute is to encourage scholarship, leadership, cross-cultural awareness, and spiritual well being as key elements to achieving empowerment.

Screenwriting & Video Production Institute

Do you dream of being a director, producer or writer of film and television? Do you have ideas for scripts, but don’t know how to bring them to fruition? The Screenwriting and Video Production Institute will bring you through the three stages of film and video creation: Pre-production, production and post-production. This hands-on approach will give students the background needed to pursue a degree in directing, acting and writing. Students will learn how to brainstorm ideas, research topics, write a script, shoot and edit video. Our focus for this program will be creating a narrative critiquing body image in media. This production can take any form and it is up to your creative talents to make this narrative materialize, with the guidance of two experienced faculty.  There is no need to have a background in video production or scriptwriting. It requires that you have an interest and passion for the creative process.

Business Organization & Leadership Institute

From the boardroom to the classroom, this is the ideal summer institute for students who want an introduction to the fundamentals of business practices in Boston, New England’s business and financial epicenter.  We’ll start off with "Breakfast in the Boardroom" visiting local business executives and then return to our internationally recognized Business School to review core business topics such as: accounting, marketing, management, finance and leadership.  Group work will be emphasized as students prepare final presentations for a panel of local business executives.  Perfect for future business majors!

About the Suffolk University

Suffolk University, founded in 1906 by Gleason L. Archer as Suffolk School of Law is now a comprehensive university located on Boston's historic Beacon Hill . With residence hall facilities on Tremont Street across from the Common and a new residence hall on Beacon Hill, the Law School building at lower Tremont Street and the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University near the Public Garden in Park Square, the university circles the mid-town public parks in our urban version of the traditional campus quadrangle.

The University enrolls more than 3,500 undergraduates from 29 states and 97 countries.  In  addition, there are over 1,500 graduate and professional students and over 1,700 students in the School of Law , bringing our total enrollment to approximately 7,000 students.  Two-thirds of our undergraduate students are enrolled in the College of Arts & Sciences, and 33% are in the Sawyer School of Management.  Almost 20% are multicultural students.

Suffolk students and guests have access to the wealth of resources found in the downtown centers of finance, health care, commerce, government and law.  Enjoy close proximity to some of the world’s top cultural and tourist attractions.

These programs are created for high school sophomores and juniors that currently have a GPA of 2.8 or higher.  They offer students class time and tour time with a Suffolk University faculty or staff member.  Students will live and learn on-campus just steps from the Boston Common.  There are plans for fun and exciting excursions like Six Flags – New England, a whale watch, Blue Man Group, Provincetown and much more!
