The Public Speaking Institute trains students in communication skills not generally taught in schools. This program instills a strong sense of confidence, articulation, organization, clear and effective writing abilities, exemplary classroom participation skills, and the ability to deliver well crafted presentations in and out of the classroom. The major topics students will cover are delivery and debate, persuasive speaking, and they will have the opportunity to choose an elective course in model congress, negotiations, acting and improvisation.
American Legal Experience For students interested in law and the American judicial system, we offer this program for students to have the unique opportunity to learn public speaking skills through a concentrated focus on the courts. Students will work with expereinced public speaking instructors to learn the structure of the court systems, differences between the process of law involved in civil and criminal trials, and most importantly, proper methods for the formation and presentation of convincing legal arguments. Students will participate in full mock-trials and will get to meet with local attorneys and visit a court house to see an actual trial in progress.
Elementary Education Week Grades 4-6 Education Unlimited offers a special session of the Public Speaking Institute at Stanford University designed to meet the needs of younger students. Elementary Ed students will study the same skills as in the older kids' camps, but in a setting designed to encourage the younger students' enthusiasm. Special shortened day camp options are offered at this session.
