General Course Information (for ages 12 and up)
Outward Bound's courses will challenge you, but not beyond your means. We begin most courses assuming you have no previous experience. But from there, we move through a series of progressively difficult challenges at an appropriate pace for everyone in the group. You try, you learn, you grow.
Course activities are nearly endless and include backpacking, canyoneering/desert backpacking, canoeing, dogsledding, mountaineering, rafting, rock climbing, sailing, sea kayaking, skiing/snowboarding, and multi-activity in some of the most untouched wilderness areas across the nation.
No matter the activity, courses focus on learning through experience, compassion, leadership and responsibility to both team and the environment. Courses range in length from 4 days to three months in length. Scholarships are available.
Since 1961, over 500,000 students have returned from an Outward Bound experience with a deeper knowledge of themselves and the world in which we live.
Youth Courses (exclusively for youth ages 12 to 16)
The world is a big place, and Outward Bound can help young people successfully navigate the tough road from adolescence to adulthood. The Outward Bound course for younger teens is a chance to master new skills, experience physical and group challenges and uncover newfound confidence. Courses are run for ages 12-13, 14-15 or 14-16. On these courses, you'll learn about teamwork and know a feeling of accomplishment and pride that can never be undone.
In the hands of our instructors you learn within and through, not just about, the places you visit. Whether you're rafting, paddling canoes, or climbing mountains, the wilderness can teach you skills that will become lifelong tools. Courses start midday so most students can fly in and start the same day. We’ll meet you at the airport and transport you to the start of the course.
All youth courses have an age cap to make sure that the focus is on you and your peers. We'll share your progress with post-course evaluations that are sent home to parents or guardians. It ’s an adventure that will stay with you for the rest of your days.General Course Information (for ages 12 and up)
