Safe, Fun and Challenging

Orme Ranch Camp: Where everybody rides every day! Located on a 26,000 acre working cattle ranch, campers have the unique opportunity to enjoy hours of riding on the high desert grasslands on countless trails. Due to our location and vast land campers see a different view each day from the saddle.

Whether your camper is new to riding, has never ridden or is an accomplished rider we offer riding groups at all levels and specialty lessons for the more experienced rider. Our campers are assigned horses for the duration of their camp stay and each camper learns to identify their horse, ‘catch’ him or her with help of the counselors and wranglers, tie their horse at the rail and groom, saddle and bridle their own horse. Our specialty staff of wranglers is highly trained and CHA certified to offer the safest possible ride while exploring the desert from horseback.

For more accomplished riders we offer English Riding classes, a gymkhana class and for our older campers steer riding! For those interested in learning a new skill we offer beginning and advanced roping classes starting with ground roping.

When not in the saddle campers have the opportunity to choose from traditional camp activities ranging from Target Sports to Ceramics to Desert Survival. This year we have added Paint Ball to our list of special activities.

On the weekends we have either a special themed day on campus or we travel to the natural and historical treasures of the southwest. In July our campers ride (in trucks and wagons) in the Prescott Days Parade and attend the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott ! Other trips include the Hopi Festival in Flagstaff, Lava Tubes north of Flagstaff , a trip to a neighboring ranch for a ropes course or a day in Jerome visiting with local artists.

History

Over the years Orme has been a summer home to thousands of young people, beginning in 1929 when Charles Orme, Sr. and his wife, Minna, purchased the Quarter Circle V Bar, a 26,000 acre cattle ranch in central Arizona . Life on an isolated cattle ranch could be pretty lonely for the their children, so the Orme family invited friends to send their children to the Quarter circle V Bar for a summer of ranch life, horseback riding, and an outdoor experience in the Southwest.

"I can't thank you enough for creating such a wonderful opportunity for my child. Adam has never spent that much time away from home and I doubted he'd make it through the first two weeks without a melt down, much less him wanting to go back for another two weeks. You and your staff can be very proud of your accomplishments and impacts you are having on so many young people's lives. I've told my friends about it and several of them already have plans to send their children next year." - Kay Selin (Camp Parent)
