The New York Film Academy was founded thirteen years ago on a belief that a top quality education in filmmaking should be accessible to anyone with the drive and ambition to make films. The school opened in Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Center. Today the New York Film Academy occupies its own building, formerly known as Tammany Hall, as well as a complete school facility at Universal Studios and locations in a variety countries. The New York Film Academy believes that the correct path for filmmakers is to immediately start making their own films in a hands-on intensive working environment. To this end, all students begin making their own films in the first week of all our workshops. About our Filmaking Programs AMC, the premiere 24-hour movie based cable network, and the New York Film Academy have teamed up to create a one-week intensive movie making course. The four-week program is structured around the production of three short films of increasing complexity. Students attend class either in the morning or afternoon Monday through Friday, and shoot their films with supervision during the other half of each day. The Six-Week Workshop provides students with an intensive introduction to the craft of filmmaking, and gives them an opportunity to direct a longer final film than is possible in our shorter workshops. Students in the 3-D Computer Animation workshops will write, animate, direct and edit their own computer animated short films. In our Digital Filmmaking workshops each student directs two exercise projects of increasing complexity, and a final project in DVCAM format using the Sony PD-150 digital camera and edited on Apple G-4 Final Cut Pro stations. Tween Camps The New York Film Academy is pleased to offer two new opportunities for students (ages 10-13) to learn filmmaking or acting for film. Students interested in filmmaking may choose to enroll in either the Weekend Filmmaking Workshop or our new Two-Week Workshop. Students may choose to enroll in the first week only. Students interested in acting for the camera can now partake in our Weekend Acting for Film Workshop, which meets for 12 Saturdays. For more information ...
