The Summer Mountain and the Summer River Journeys are part of an innovative new kind of adventure program that blend exhilarating outdoor programming with participation in worthwhile environmental service. TAKE YOUR PICK of the Summer River Journey (SRJ) or Summer Mountain Journey (SMJ) progams. The eight-day SRJ ushers students along the pristine, rambling John Day River by kayak, pausing to absorb the natural and cultural history of Oregon's high desert land; spending a day of world-class climbing at Smith Rocks; and culminating in two days completeing a local river service project. SMJ engages students in an eight-day sojourn exploring the sub-alpine meadows, brilliant snow fields, and breathtaking treeline vistas of the 12,281 foot Mt. Adams; indulging in a day of refreshing mountain lake kayaking; and breaking a sweat through two days of trailbuilding. Both programs culminate in a thrilling whitewater rafting trip down the wild and scenic White Salmon River. The Summer Journeys not only provide excellent exposure to and experience in two magnificent Northwest wilderness areas, they also supply powerful opportunities for participants' growth in group leadership, confidence, communication skills, teambuilding and environmental stewardship.
