University of Maryland's Young Scholars Program, The Young Scholars Program, July 11-30, 2010, invites high school students with exceptional ability and talent to get ready for college at the University of Maryland. In this competitive program, rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors earn three college credits, pursue academic interests, discover career opportunities, and learn about university life. Classes, seminars, living arrangements, and social activities encourage the exchange of ideas and lend to the development of lasting friendships.
During three weeks of intellectual exploration, Young Scholars preview the college experience and study with equally talented peers. University faculty, dedicated to educating tomorrow’s leaders and addressing global challenges, provide outstanding and innovative instruction. The program’s rich learning environment encourages creative problem solving, and field trips and guest speakers take Young Scholars from theory to practice.
The Young Scholars Program offers over 30 courses in a broad range of academic disciplines and subject areas. Students enroll in one three-credit course, selecting from the following subject areas: Architecture and Urban Planning, Creative Expression, The Business of Technology, The Environment, Science and Engineering, Communication, Exploring the Past, Public Health and Wellness, and Our Changing Society.

Admission is competitive; early applicants are more likely to receive their first course selection.
The Young Scholars Program is open to rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have an academic grade point average of 3.0 or better.
