Kippewa focuses on the individual. Everything is individualized, from the way we help your daughter adjust to camp, to the scheduling of her activities following her particular interests.
Kippewa girls come from all over the United States and the entire world, and are easygoing, welcoming of new friends, intent on learning and enjoying new skills, and endlessly fun to be with. Your daughter could join us for the first of the best summers of her young life.
Kippewa teaches a vast array of activities in: • Studio Arts • Performing Arts • Land Sports • Water Sports • Horseback Riding • Wilderness Trips
Program Kippewa girls will tell you that the program is completely open, that they can do what they want, and it certainly feels that way, but behind the scenes, there is structure. The girls pick what they want from within blocks of activities carefully updated each week for each age group. This assures that every girl gets a well balanced program, even as she emphasizes her interests.
Kippewa teaches physical and cognitive skills that can be learned only with consistent instruction. Having fun goes hand-in-hand with good teaching, because new activities are more fun when one can do them well. Kippewa's teachers can be effective because they work at any one time with girls of the same age and classes are never crowded.
Location Kippewa is a classic lakeside woodland camp with one of Maine's rare natural sand beaches. Originally built as a sporting camp for adults in 1917, it has been greatly expanded, yet the historic character is lovingly preserved. Kippewa is on the shore of Lake Cobbosseecontee, the largest in the region, but still sparsely traveled: ten miles long, over a mile-and-a-half wide, with forty-four islands and fifty-two miles of shoreline.
Kippewa is in South Central Maine, the north-easternmost state of the United States, in the same time zone as New York City but further north. This is lake country, within an hour or two's drive of the Atlantic Ocean and the southern parts of the Great North Woods wilderness.
