Kippewa's Setting Kippewa's onsite 25-acre horse farm is the unparalleled setting for teaching horseback riding and stable management. A former training farm for race horses, this ideal property of pastoral grazing lands, half-mile track, massive barns, hilltop training rings, and impressive vistas is evocative of the romance and the excitement of a girl's love for horses. Kippewa's horses and those owned by campers are kept in a barn with a fully paneled interior and 29 full-size box stalls. Your daughter will feel as though she stepped into a storybook, a truly memorable setting on the grounds of Kippewa For Girls.
Kippewa's Program Kippewa teaches a cross between a balanced and modified hunt seat, the most flexible preparation for diverse equestrian specialties. We accommodate all levels of experience from the first-time rider to the accomplished jumper. Each camper has lessons scheduled daily. The focus is on the greater enjoyment and progress that children find in lessons with friends, balanced with the need for occasional one-on-one instruction. Lesson groups are based upon current skills and are comprised of five or six riders and horses with two instructors for each of the large training rings. Because horses require specialized care, all girls learn grooming and stable management as part of their program.
The importance of Kippewa's emphasis on individualized instruction in an intimate setting cannot be over emphasized, especially in an activity as technically demanding as horseback riding. The lead instructor and her staff will know your daughter Ð her abilities, progress and concerns. This familiarity along with daily lesson boosts confidence, assuring the greatest advancement during the summer.
Kippewa's Instructors Our equestrian consultant, who oversees Kippewa's equestrian program, is a highly experienced English riding school operator and instructor. Kippewa's instructors must be able to teach the highest levels simply to qualify, though ultimately they are chosen for their desire to teach children of all levels.
Kippewa's Horses and Safety Record In addition to the obvious need for proper schooling, Kippewa's horses are selected for their even temperament. The horses will respond to beginners, yet challenge more advanced riders. Kippewa's prized quarter-century safety record is the result of critically assessing each girl's skills, and methodically, conservatively guiding her through situations requiring increasing independence in the control of the horse.
Kippewa's Full Summer Camp Program Horseback riding is a specialized program within Kippewa For Girls, a summer camp teaching studio and performing arts, land and water sports, and wilderness camping to girls from all over the world. When they are not riding, the girls enjoy all of Kippewa's other amenities.
