Intercultura Teen Spanish Camp takes place from June 21st to August 3rd.There are three 2-week programs and campers may choose one, two or all three programs, as long as they arrive on a start date (Saturday or Sunday) and depart on a finish date (Monday). Teens arrive at San Jose Airport (SJO) in Costa Rica and from there, the adventure begins as teens are taken to their host families in Heredia or to their luxurious hotel with swimming pool at Sámara Beach.

From Monday to Friday, teens take 3.5 hours of Spanish classes per day with our fully credentialed professors, who have been specially trained to teach adolescents in a fun, communicative and real-life context. Classes alternate between mornings and afternoons, and take place in our in our air-conditioned classrooms or in tropical gardens at our beachfront campus if not on the beach itself!

During the other half of the day the teens engage in activities such as surf classes, turtle or dolphin watching, ecological hikes, kayaking, boating, bonfires and music on the beach, Latin dance, evening outings, and movie nights., along with visits to the National Theater, coffee farms, ruins and lots of cultural activities and community projects just to name a few.

In addition to weekly tours and excursions, campers will travel every weekend to remote areas of Costa Rica to discover some of the best places this country has to offer along with some out of this world activities. The first weekend, students will visit the famous Montezuma beach town, on the tip of the remote Nicoya Peninsula, and take a boat trip to Turtle Island for a beachside barbeque and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. We stay overnight in a hotel close to the beach, and students have free time to shop, eat and meet and mingle with the locals.

On  another weekend, a trip to Rincon de la Vieja National Park provides a fascinating glimpse of Costa Rica's rich and varied wildlife… Each program has its unique full-packed adventures and tours scheduled to everybody’s enjoyment.

Teens will make new friends in a nice and healthy environment where they will open their mind to new cultures and languages.

Session One
With this first session, teens will arrive on Sunday June 21 at San Jose Airport (SJO) and will leave on Monday July 6. They will be picked up by their families where they will be staying for the first week, sharing breakfasts and dinners with their new family. While in beautiful colonial Heredia, teens will attend Spanish classes in the mornings and participate in numerous and fun activities such as salsa dancing, soccer, visit to waterfalls, butterfly farm, and a coffee farm, where they will learn about the rich culture of Costa Rica. On Friday afternoon they will depart for Montezuma Beach for 3 days, where they will get to know this quaint beach community, go by boat to Tortuga Island and, with any luck, see humpback whales! On the island, they will snorkel, swim, and eat succulent grilled fish or chicken right on the beach. After a swim in the famous Montezuma waterfalls, the teens will depart for the Sámara Campus where they will check into their hotel (with AC, swimming pool, cable TV and Jacuzzi). Classes will alternate between mornings and afternoons, and the rest of their time will be filled with fun activities such as surfing, kayaking and turtle watching, along with cultural activities such as Latin dance classes, arts & crafts, local cuisine etc. After graduation on Friday, they will leave for Rincon de la Vieja where they will go on an exciting zip-line tour, and go horseback riding to hot springs and waterfalls. On Sunday they will return to their homestay in Heredia for one last night before they say good-bye to their new-made friends the next Monday before leaving Costa Rica.

Session Two
This session starts Saturday July 4th and ends Monday July 20th . Teens arrive at San Jose Airport (SJO) and will be picked up by their families and stay there one night until their departure to Sámara Beach the very next day. After a short Spanish oral test, they will go on to their respective groups for the session. Besides improving their Spanish skills, they will participate in exchanges with local students, visit a turtle refuge, learn to surf, to dance and to cook amongst other things. On Friday, they will leave for a 2-night stay in the rainforest of Monteverde where they will go on nocturnal walks in the jungle, go zip-lining, horseback riding and visit a snake & frog farm before they head back to their homestay in Heredia. There they will go to class in the mornings and continue their day by exploring this amazing colonial city, visiting the most picturesque places, seeing jungles, waterfalls and typical dances, and participating in fun activities such as learning how to make some of the local handicrafts or how to dance salsa and cumbia. On their last weekend, they will go to Manuel Antonio where they will go to the National Park on the lookout for the two-toed sloth, white-headed capuchin monkey or the crab-eating raccoon before concluding their journey with a sea-kayaking expedition on their last day in their newfound paradise.

Session Three
Teens will arrive Sunday July 19 in San Jose Airport and will leave Monday August 3rd. Their first week in Costa Rica, their “tico” family will go meet them at the airport and bring them to their home where they will meet all the family members and spend a week sharing and learning about the culture. The whole week will be a blend of Spanish classes filled with games and fun activities, visit to the the National Museum and the San Jose Theater, exploring the Braulio Carillo National Park, a flora and fauna sanctuary filled with tropical plants, waterfalls and trees heavily laden with orchids. On their last day they will visit the sumptuous gardens inside the ruins of an ancient church of Cartago before heading out on a weekend discovery trip of the secret beaches near Conchal, Brasilito and Tamarindo. The second week teens will make the luxurious Belvedere Hotel their home and enjoy the swimming pool, Jacuzzi and practice their Spanish while watching some TV before going to bed. Classes held in a/c rooms or right on the beach will occupy half their day and the rest will be a mix-up of bonfires, surfing, conversational exchanges with local students, cooking class, salsa dancing class, beach clean-up and visit to a turtle refuge. The last weekend will be a visit at the magnificent Arenal Volcano where walks in the rainforest to splendid waterfalls and a day of rafting will conclude their unique experience in this beautiful country and they will take home their new memories to share with friends and family.
