Linguistic and cultural immersion consists of getting completely involved in an environment where the culture and language which we speak are completely different from our native ones. Participants will have to speak and put into practice their knowledge and abilities in order to understand and make themselves understood. Losing the fear to speak is an important goal of linguistic and cultural immersion. This comes easily to participants when they live and learn together.
With our programs, at a Spanish camp and with the option of staying with a Spanish host family after camp, participants will be able to use and reinforce what they have learned in class. In essence, what we offer is linguistic and cultural immersion, in a relaxed, fun and safe environment. Children who attend the camp tend to develop long term friendships with campers from Spain and stay in touch once they return to the United States.
Activities Activities start in the morning and include language classes, swimming, soccer, basketball, volleyball, arts and crafts, rock climbing, workshops and games. Every morning there are three hours of class.
Daily Schedule The American participants live together with the Spanish participants during all the activities. The only time they are separated is during class time. American participants learn Spanish while the Spanish participants learn English. During the rest of the day the groups of participants and counselors rotate in order to give them the opportunity to meet everybody at camp. In the dorm rooms boys and girls are separated by age and gender, not by language.
Accomodation Located in the town of Castellar de N’Hug. Near Barcelona. A former 10th century castle, the house has been adapted to the necessities of school Summer camp activities and is officially authorized. Among its installations there are separate rooms and bathrooms for boys and girls, more than 10 classrooms, internet connection, kitchen service, swimming pool, soccer field, basketball field, table tennis and so on.
Home Stay Option The Spanish host families will be parents of Spanish campers. We have several well known families who are willing to have a foreign student at home. Fun & Learn will keep track on how is everyone doing and will stay in touch with the students and families. There will be American counselors as well as Spanish counselors near the area and if needed they would be able to visit the house of the hosted child.
