The Equestrian Programs at Camp Friendship include our Junior Girls with Riding program for the girl age 8-12 who loves horses but still wants to enjoy the rest of camp and our Equestrian Camp Program for the girls ages 10-16 who want horses all day everyday. Each program has been developed to provide intensive instruction and experience with horses for girls interested in refining their skills in many phases of horsemanship. It is the objective of this program to enrich each camper’s ability, knowledge and enjoyment of horses through a safe and structured sequence of experiences, progressing from fundamentals to the finer points of equitation. From the beginner rider to the advanced equestrian, our concern for the growing individual and her love of horses brings about the Friendship Summer... a summer of giving. Staff are recruited from equestrian colleges and teams all over the United States and abroad. Our counselors not only have riding and teaching expertise but also a love of working with children. They are trained in safety procedures and instructional techniques specific to this program. The Equestrian Program at Camp Friendship includes: Mounted Lessons - twice a day - one on rider control and position on mount, the second on form and safety. Fun Riding - on trails, cross-country or swimming on horseback. Showing - participation in a camp show where campers may experience competition with a minimum of stress Theory - formal or impromptu lectures three times per week include guest lectures and demonstrations by a veterinarian and a blacksmith when available. Topics may include the following: • cleaning and maintaining tack • stable management • riding and jumping form • teaching techniques • safety around horses • horse anatomy and psychology • grooming/bathing/braiding & clipping • trimming and shoeing • first aid for horses • foaling and foal management • show ring etiquette For more information ...
