For over ten years the Colorado Youth Program has been helping kids connect with nature and make a difference in their communities.
Colorado Youth Program’s Teen Adventure Camp offers the same CYP quality — small group size, professional staff, beautiful Rocky Mountain setting as our traditional summer camp— yet is tailored for older teens seeking to increase their level of adventure and outdoor skills.
Join fellow CYP campers at Camp Tahosa where we'll work on becoming a team, challenging the group’s ability to cooperate mentally as well as physically. Once we’re functioning well together, you'll get outfitted with gear, then prepare for an early morning departure to the trailhead.
Backpacking
Enjoy pristine alpine lakes and waterfalls, views from breathtaking 12,000-foot mountain passes, hitting the trail each day and simply being away from the rest of the world! You''ll spend four spectacular days backpacking a twenty mile loop through scenic wilderness along the Continental Divide. As a group, we’ll carry everything we need to survive in the backcountry, including food, water, sleeping bags, tents, stoves, and extra layers. You’ll learn how to safely use backpacking equipment and to minimize your impact on nature by practicing "Leave No Trace" camping ethics.
River Expedition
Raft the wild and remote Upper Colorado River for three days while camping along the way. All of our gear will be packed in the boats with us . . . a true river expedition! Float past soaring canyon walls, watch bald eagles hunt for fish, soak in the sunshine, take a dip in the water . . . then do it all over again. Paddle your own inflatayak, fish for trout, explore red rock canyons ashore, and even learn to guide your raft. Eventually, you'll head back to Camp Tahosa, where together we’ll reflect upon the camping experience of a lifetime and say good-byes.
