Cedar Lodge is a private, independent camp that prides itself in offering a personalized family type atmosphere for children of ages 8-16 who would like to experience camping for the first time, or the tenth.

Located in southwest Michigan, Cedar Lodge has been in existence since 1964 and has been run by the Edwards family for 42 years. It prides itself in it’s small, good natured atmosphere. It believes in creating an environment where children can relax, be themselves, meet new friends and improve themselves by developing new skills and improving on old ones. At Cedar Lodge, we are pleased to be part of that experience.

Cedar Lodge has both a strong and diverse General Camp program and truly one of the highest level Equestrian Camp riding programs in the Midwest.

Cedar Lodge’s Equestrian program offers lessons for beginners through advanced Show rider. We share our grounds with Cedar Lodge Stables, a year around Hunter/Jumper show stable. Our Horse program offers: Daily lessons, Jumping, Polo, Vaulting, Ground lessons, Horse Overnights, Horse specialty week, Show Team and Camper Horse Boarding. Please visit our listing under “Horse Camps” in Allen’s Guide to learn more about this unique program.

Cedar Lodge's General Camp activities are strong enough to stand on their own. All Cedar Lodge staff are both cabin counselors and program specialists. They are hired not only for their ability to consul and be role models for our campers, but also for their expertise in several program areas. Every activity hour at camp will see 3-4 of the below activities offered in addition to the camper’s riding classes:

Arts: The Art Barn is open 6 hours a day and the campers still can’t get enough! Lanyards, painting, tie dye, silk painting, wood work, pottery, drawing, puppetry, jewelry, and book making to name just a few.

Small Animals: The small animal program is always a favorite. A miniature horse, pygmies goat, 2 sheep, guinea pigs and rabbits give loads of time and love to all.

Drama and Dance: Daily classes in both. Drama games and theater productions. Musicals, dance recitals and more.

Land Sports: Football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, croquet, badminton, tennis, softball, etc.

Mtn. and Trail Biking: Daily rides on Cedar Lodge trails, weekly field trips to Kal-Haven Rails to trails.

Swimming: Daily lessons, classes and Free Swims.

Nature: Daily outdoor education classes and hikes. Camp Craft and Overnights.

Boating: Canoeing, Kayaking, Canoe trips, Sailing and fishing.

Music: We love to sing! After lunch songs, and Broadway tunes in the evening. Not mandatory. Classes in musical instruments are often offered by counselors when qualified.

Archery: taught by NRA certified instructors at our own archery range.

But that’s just to name a few!!!! Every summer sees the offering of several “new” programs brought in by the skills that the staff of that particular summer have. Some examples of these programs have been; Camp band, Yoga, Field Hockey, Baking, Creative writing, Aerobics, Story telling, Hilly Billy Golf, foreign language study and Folk dancing.

Our programs will guarantee to keep your camper busy learning new skills, or improving upon old ones, all summer long!
