Rising out of the forest, Camp Tamakwa is a "children's village" - where campers live and play in a safe, creative, nurturing habitat - and where they are encouraged to do what they do best...be themselves.
Founded in 1936 by naturalist Lou Handler and celebrated canoeist Omer Stringer, Tamakwa is summer home to 280 boys and girls - ages 7 to 16 - and over 130 staff. Tamakwa is half American-half Canadian. Campers and staff come mostly from Detroit and Toronto, but also from California, Montreal, Chicago, New York, and everywhere in between.

For most campers, we have two 4-week sessions to choose from and many campers choose to stay for all 8 weeks. They are as follows:
JULY SESSION - June 28 - July 25
AUGUST SESSION - July 26 - August 22
For first-time Tamakwans, finishing grade 1-3, we offer a 2-week option during each session. They are as follows:
JULY 2-WEEK J.T. SESSION - June 28 - July 12
AUGUST 2-WEEK J.T. SESSION - July 26 - August 9
(J.T. campers signed up for 2 weeks have the option to stay for the last 2 weeks of the session as well)
