Family Life magazine has rated Camp O-AT-KA as one of the top ten camps in the country. Founded in 1906, the camp is still clear about its mission – to help boys 7-16 embrace enduring values. Camp O-AT-KA is situated on the western shore of Lake Sebago near Portland, Maine . It is a place where boys develop self-reliance, discover their innate skills and abilities, learn new skills, and have fun.
Boys have been coming to Camp O-AT-KA for 100 years to grow closer to the natural world and to one another. They explore trails and sharpen skills together. They share triumphs and troubles, and learn important values as members of a close-knit cabin group and a wider camp community – values like patience and respect for others’ points of view, doing their fair share and helping others in need – life skills that are part of the personal growth that we want for every boy. Camp O-AT-KA is a place where boys can form life-long friendships.
The program offers lots of activities that both interest and challenge boys. Camp O-AT-KA offers riflery, archery, sailing, fishing, campcraft, stained glass, steel drums, pottery, nature photography, fly-tying, rod building, drama, wilderness trips, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball and lacrosse, as well as the Junior Maine Guide Program.
The wide variety of individual pursuits, team activities, and daily camp gatherings provide a well-rounded experience to every camper. Mature staff members offer guidance, instruction, and support to help boys become stronger, more self-reliant, and self-assured. With a 3:1 camper to staff ratio, the vast majority of our staff and campers return year after year.
